Students and teachers at Excelsior International School (EIS) recently held a Bake Sale to raise funds to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Following the viewing of a video composed by Humanities teacher, Mr. Eric Howe, on the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, the students at Excelsior International Shool swung into action. Driven by the Student Council, assisted by Teacher-Librarian, Ms. Stephanne Siberry, a major effort by the whole of the Excelsior Community resulted in a fantastic Bake Sale, which was supported and enjoyed by all.
The generosity of the families who donated baked goods and of all those who bought items at the sale in support of the cause and together with the matching donation of the EIS resulted in an amount of RM10,000 being raised and donated to Mercy Malaysia. Ms. Megawati Md Rashidi, Senior Advisor, Communications and Fundraising, graciously accepted the cheque on behalf of Mercy Malaysia.
In addition, the EIS donated some of the baked items to two local welfare organizations, Care Haven and Persatuan Kebajikan Orang-Orang Istimewa. The whole event was summed up so well by one of the Student Councillors who said, "Yes, the money raised is very good, but really it is the effort that is important!" – a significant collective demonstration of the Excelsior Community embracing two of its core values "Empathy" and "Compassion".
